PROFHILO® NZ

Dr Katarzyna Mackenzie Plastic Surgeon now offers the award-winning treatment called PROFHILO®

How does it work?
As you age your body starts to produce less collagen and elastin – the cells that give your skin its structure and firmness. When these cells start to reduce, your skin can no longer hold its appearance and the first signs of ageing, such as fine lines and wrinkles, start to appear.

Profhilo®, also called “the Injectable Moisturiser” is a revolutionary ‘beneath the skin’ hyaluronic acid moisturising treatment, made with the patented NAHYCO® technology. This results in a unique hyaluronic acid injectable gel, which has a prolonged stimulating activity on the dermal cells. When injected into skin, Profhilo® stimulates the skin cell receptors to counteract skin laxity and improve and restore firmness of the skin.

As a stabilised product Profhilo® lasts in the skin around 28 days. During this time the stimulation of 4 different types of collagen and elastin takes place by slow release of HA. Unlike wrinkle reducing and dermal filler treatments, Profhilo stimulates collagen and elastin, attracting water in the deeper layers of the skin.

Profhilo® works to naturally restore hyaluronic acid levels causing an immediate tightening of the skin. Added hydration allows patients to easily achieve a healthier glowing skin tone and smoother texture.

Highest concentration of hyaluronic acid on the market
Profhilo contains 32mg of low molecular weight HA (80-100Kda) and 32 mg of high molecular weight HA (1100-1400Kda). This gives one of the highest concentration of HA on the market totalling 64 mg of HA in a 2ml prefilled syringe.

Profhilo® treatment areas
Ultra-pure hyaluronic acid is precisely injected into the area being treated. Profhilo® is used to improve skin texture on the face, neck and décolletage area.

How is it used?
Profhilo® is a quick treatment – taking about 15 minutes with no downtime. It is injected just under the skin, using very fine needles, in the pre-determined points. The fine needle means the treatment is relatively painless, feeling like a small scratch, and usually does not require a topical numbing cream prior to treatment.

2 treatments with a one-month interval are required for the most optimal results.

How long will results last?
Results may vary depending on the skin type, the area being treated and the severity of your aesthetic concerns. As time goes on these effects are enhanced and can last up to six months, depending on the individual patient.

When should I get maintenance treatments?
You’re encouraged to undergo touch-up treatments every 6-9 months.

Is it painful and what are side effects like?
Profhilo® minimises the need for multiple injection sites keeping it as pain-free as possible. Although most patients find the procedure very tolerable, you may feel a slight ‘pinch’ as the ultra-fine needle is inserted. A topical numbing agent can be applied upon request.
The risk of side effects is low but may include; mild redness, itching, discolouration or tenderness at the injection site. Side effects, if any, should subside quickly.

What are the aftercare recommendations?

  • It is advisable to avoid alcohol, aspirin or anti-inflammatory medication in the 24 hours before treatment
  • Immediately after treatment, you should avoid wearing make-up
  • Avoid sports, swimming and any other strenuous physical activity for 24 hours
  • Avoid saunas and steam rooms for a few days after treatment
